Filson regenerative heat exchanger is also called regenerator. It is a type of heat exchanger used to store heat. The heat from the hot fluid is intermittently collected in a thermal storage medium before it is transfered to the cold fluid.

Different from recuperative heat exchanger, Filson regenerative heat exchanger has a single flow path in which the hot and cold fluids alternately pass through. To realize its purpose, a regenerator brings the hot fluid to contact with the thermal storage medium and then the hot fluid is replaced by the cold fluid which absorbs the heat.
